As we await the final results from the small sliver of Fulton County that tips GA06, today's Combover looks at how desperate things have been getting for the Republicans.
Caught in a seemingly endless torrent of scandal, corruption, and outright treason, the political rightwing of this country is in free-fall. And when things get this bad, this fast, it's almost natural for survival instincts to kick in.
For the GOP, that means lie like there is no tomorrow. From falsehoods regarding Jon Ossoff's political stances (as well as what power he would actually wield as a freshman member of the minority party) we can start to get a feel for it:
Democrat Jon Ossoff would be a disaster in Congress. VERY weak on crime and illegal immigration, bad for jobs and wants higher taxes. Say NO— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 18, 2017
Tack on some completely unverified numbers about Republican prosperity and suddenly it's more than a feeling:Republicans must get out today and VOTE in Georgia 6. Force runoff and easy win! Dem Ossoff will raise your taxes-very bad on crime & 2nd A.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 18, 2017
Their plan to create those 1.7 million new jobs appears to plagiarize the Underpants Gnomes. We have a bold solution to fix our broken tax code – creating millions of American jobs and increasing income for middle-class families. pic.twitter.com/zlYYL3uwui— Ways and Means (@WaysandMeansGOP) April 18, 2017

UPDATE: Ossoff did not receive enough votes to win outright but he did outpace the entire Republican field combined. He remains in good standing for the runoff in June, especially considering where Trump's poll numbers will be by then. All signs point to him planning on "helping" Handel:
And that makes the Republicans sweat.Dems failed in Kansas and are now failing in Georgia. Great job Karen Handel! It is now Hollywood vs. Georgia on June 20th.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 19, 2017
Catch you on the flip side.
